Director General
The Director General of the International Union of Uzbekistan’s Students (UzSU) leads the organisation’s mission to unite, empower, and represent Uzbekistan’s students studying abroad. This role ensures that UzSU’s initiatives effectively support students’ academic, cultural, and professional development while strengthening their connection to Uzbekistan. By fostering collaboration among international branches and maintaining close ties with partnering institutions, the Executive Director drives the Union’s strategic growth and global engagement.
The Director General coordinates all core activities of UzSU, including educational programs, cultural exchanges, and community-building initiatives. They work to expand partnerships with universities, youth organisations, and embassies, promoting the Union’s vision of an active, connected, and forward-looking student community. Through leadership, innovation, and a commitment to inclusivity, the Executive Director ensures UzSU remains a vibrant international platform that showcases Uzbekistan’s youth and contributes to the nation’s positive image worldwide.
Biography
Asha Bukharbaeva is a recent graduate of Culture, Media & Creative Industries at King’s College London (KCL) with a deep passion for cultural promotion and effective communication. Being one of the five Co-Founders of UzSU, Asha served as in Information and Communication Executive at the UK branch before becoming the Director General.
During her years at KCL, Asha founded the KCL Central Asian Society and served as its inaugural President. Under her leadership, the society successfully showcased Central Asian culture at KCL and across London, creating a platform for cultural exchange and representation.
Additionally, Asha has served as Secretary General of Central Asian Youth Alliance. During her period as Secretary General, she was one of the organisers of The First Summit of Central Asian Youth at King’s College London and Central Asian Future Forum at London School of Economics and Political Science.
Asha’s professional experience includes an internship at the Arts and Cultural Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Uzbekistan National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.Â
Driven by her dedication to empowering students and promoting Uzbekistan’s culture, Asha continues to lead with creativity and vision, ensuring UzSU thrives as a dynamic and inclusive global community.
