The General Secretary oversees the administrative, financial, and compliance operations of the Union. Through the Secretariat, the General Secretary manages membership processes, maintains accurate records, oversees budgeting and financial reporting, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and data protection standards. In the absence of the President, the General Secretary assumes essential responsibilities such as coordinating the Executive Committee and managing external affairs.
Biography
Umarbek Islamov is a Politics and Development student at SOAS, University of London.
Umarbek’s extensive experience includes serving as a member of the Student Council at d’Overbroecks College Oxford. Before becoming the General Secretary, Umarbek has served as a President’s Advisor – Volunteer Coordinator at UzSU. During his office, he established a welcoming environment for volunteers, provided trainings and strengthened their ties to their homeland.
Apart from his leadership experience, Umarbek has gained valuable professional insights through internships at the Youth’s Affairs Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and at the World Bank project. Due to the extensive experience, Umarbek has gained skills in monitoring and evaluation, diplomacy and administration.
